Pasco State Exam Scores Climb

Land O’ Lakes, FL – (June 8, 2017) – Pasco County Schools saw the percentage of students overall who are considered proficient increase by three percentage points over 2016 in both English language arts (ELA) and mathematics, moving up from 52 percent proficient to 55 percent proficient in ELA (3rd – 10th), and from 54 percent proficient to 57 percent proficient in math (FSA and EOC 3rd – 8th).             The district’s focus this year was to improve the scores of its 23 “Differentiated Accountability” schools, which are graded, non-charter schools the state has identified for escalating interventions, support and monitoring based on their school grade history. Hudson Elementary School, which has been graded F the last two years, saw improvement at every grade level in both English language arts and mathematics.  Overall, the district’s struggling schools generally saw improvement in both ELA and math at every grade level, with the exception of 5th grade.             Schools on the state’s watch list and the grade levels showing significant improvement (10+ percentage points) include: Calusa ES                  4th grade ELA up from 30% proficient to 47% proficient (+17) 5th grade ELA up from 31% proficient to 42 % proficient (+11) 4th grade math up from 25% proficient to 48% proficient (+23) Cox ES      4th grade ELA up from 31% proficient to 48% proficient (+17) 4th grade math up from 36% proficient to 66% proficient (+30) 5th grade math up from 29% proficient to 41% proficient (+12) Gulf Highlands ES  3rd grade ELA up from 31% proficient to 41% proficient (+10) 4th grade ELA up from 29% proficient to 54% proficient (+25) 3rd grade math up from 25% proficient to 35% proficient (+10) 4th grade math up from 26% proficient to 56% proficient (+30) Gulf Trace ES            4th grade ELA up from 20% proficient to 45% proficient (+25) 3rd grade math up from 28% proficient to 63% proficient (+35) 4th grade math up from 30% proficient to 49% proficient (+19) Hudson ES                4th grade ELA up from 30% proficient to 53% proficient (+23) 5th grade ELA up from 21%proficient to 32% proficient (+11) 3rd grade math up from 15% proficient to 34% proficient (+19) 4th grade math up from 33% proficient to 46% proficient (+13) Lacoochee ES           4th grade ELA up from 25% proficient to 34% proficient (+10) 3rd grade math up from 26% proficient to 63% proficient (+37) 4th grade math up from 35% proficient to 46% proficient (+11) Moon Lake ES           4th grade ELA up from 39% proficient to 51% proficient (+12) 5th grade ELA up from 35% proficient to 50% proficient (+15) 4th grade math up from 46% proficient to 61% proficient (+15) Pasco ES                   3rd grade ELA up from 26% proficient to 39% proficient (+13) 3rd grade math up from 25% proficient to 49% proficient (+11) 5th grade math up from 32% proficient to 44% proficient (+12) Schrader ES              3rd grade ELA up from 29% proficient to 57% proficient (+12) 4th grade ELA up from 38% proficient to 52% proficient (+14) Seven Springs ES    4th grade ELA up from 34% proficient to 44% proficient (+10) 4th grade math up from 41% proficient to 56% proficient (+15) Gulf Middle                6th grade math up from 26% proficient to 48% proficient (+22) 7th grade math up from 13% proficient to 27% proficient (+14)             Notable performances by other Pasco County schools will be analyzed and released on Friday.             “I am very pleased with what I have seen today,” said Superintendent Kurt Browning.  “We’re on a positive trajectory, which can be attributed to our professional development, curriculum aligned with Florida Standards, and the very hard work of our teachers and students.”             Parents can check their students’ results beginning on Friday, June 9, on myStudent.  Those who don’t have an account can establish one by going to the district website, www.pascoschools.org, and clicking on the Parents link at the top, and then on Check Grades/Attendance.
