Who: Dr. Mary Giella Elementary School pre-k to 1st grade students and Heritage Pines Community Association residents, including the Angels in the Pines and Toymakers of America
What: Santa Day
When: 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, December 21
Where: Dr. Mary Giella Elementary School, 14710 Shady Hills Rd., in Spring Hill
Why: To help brighten the holiday season for students in need, and inspire them to stay in school.
How: Heritage Pines Community Association residents regularly volunteer at Dr. Mary Giella Elementary School, as well as other schools, and plan to make the holiday season memorable for students. They also make annual holiday visits to high-needs schools to hand out their crafts to children. The “Angels in the Pines” knitted hats, scarves, and gloves and the Toymakers of America crafted wooden toys. During their visit, one of their members will be dressed as Santa Claus, and will give all 220 pre-k through 1st grade students a book, candy cane, wooden toy, hat, scarf, and gloves.
