Second Pasco Student Receives $500 Friends For Change Disney Grant

Land O’ Lakes, FL –  (April 10, 2015) – Sally Campbell, a 7th grader from Centennial Middle School in Dade City, is the district’s second student to earn a Disney Friends For Change Youth Grant through YSA (Youth Service America).  The grant will support Campbell in leading a community service project associated with Global Youth Service Day (GYSD).  Campbell is one of 125 children and teens across the country that were awarded grants to lead projects that make a positive, lasting change in the world. Sally’s service activities will take place on Tuesday, April 21, at the Benjamin Merrick Hope Lodge in Tampa.  Campbell and her friends will support S.O.C.K.S. (Students Organizing Cancer patients Krazy Socks) organization by visiting and delivering socks to the cancer patients, serving dinner, and entertaining them. Sally will hold a local sock drive in her community to collect socks for this event under her own division known as “Sallybrating with SOCKS.”  She will then mail socks to cancer patients in hospitals across the United States.  She joined S.O.C.K.S. organization this past summer as a volunteer along with Dade City teen and founder of S.O.C.K.S., Courtney Nathe.  She has helped collect more than 1,700 pairs of socks, held fundraisers in town and at her school, served at the Hope Lodge, and advertised her organization in local parades. Sally joins millions of other young people around the world as part of Global Youth Service Day 2015.  Now in its 27th year, Global Youth Service Day provides an opportunity for young people to find their voice, take action, and make a positive impact in their communities.  As the largest service event in the world, Global Youth Service Day is celebrated in more than 135 countries and all 50 states. “Sally is a true Friend For Change,” said Steven A.
