Who: Special Olympics student-athletes
What: Pasco County Stand Up Paddle Competition
When: 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 27
Where: Sims Park floating docks, 5547 Main St., in New Port Richey
Why: Stand up paddle is a new Special Olympics sport. Although this marks the second year of competition in Pasco County, it is the first county competition. The county competition will expose student-athletes to race conditions and will automatically qualify them for the Area 6 competition on July 22. Student-athletes who place in the area competition qualify for the state finals.
How: The first meet will begin at 10 a.m. Special Olympics student athletes will be divided into two divisions: Level 3 and Level 4. Level 3 participants will navigate a 1600-yard buoy course and Level 4 participants will navigate an 800-yard buoy course. There will be an awards ceremony following the competition.
