Land O’ Lakes, FL – (October 5, 2016) – The Pasco County Schools PLACE afterschool program is hosting its 5th Annual Lights on Afterschool event at Fivay High School from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, October 20. The Pasco Learning and Activity Centers of Enrichment (PLACE) program’s Lights on Afterschool celebration will include the River Ridge High School JRTOC’s color presentation, a parade of PLACE program students, activities for children, and a student art exhibit. The guest speaker will be Florida Afterschool Alliance Executive Director Sharon Carie. There also will be food and refreshments available for purchase to support several school-based organizations. Each October, more than a million Americans in thousands of communities nationwide celebrate the afterschool programs that keep kids safe, inspire them to learn, and help working families. Quality afterschool programs support working families by ensuring that children are safe and productive when the school day ends and give children the opportunity to discover hidden talents as they grow academically and socially. Quality afterschool programs make our communities stronger by bringing together students, parents, business leaders, and volunteers. PLACE has been providing this quality afterschool programming in Pasco County schools since 1990. The public is invited to join in this free celebration and show their support for safe, quality afterschool programs. For more information about the program, contact Maree Marian, this year’s event coordinator, at 813-794.2124.
