Land O’ Lakes, FL – (June 6, 2016) – All Pasco County Schools students have been delivered home safely after the district had to call for early dismissal to get
At approximately 9:15 a.m., the district received updated weather information calling for higher sustained wind speeds than predicted up until then. Based on the forecast 40 to 45 mile-per-hour sustained winds and 55 miles-per-hour gusts at 3 p.m., the superintendent consulted with staff and made the call to dismiss schools early on a tiered basis. The decision was made so that students and staff all will be off the roads when the storm hits, and because school buses can’t be operated in winds above 40 miles per hour.
“I understand that this decision has been disruptive to many, but I believe that it was the right decision to make in the interest of student and employee safety,” said Superintendent Kurt Browning. “Our Transportation Department and school staffs are to be commended for adjusting their schedules to make sure students got home safely.”
At this time, the plan is to open schools for business at their normal times on Tuesday, June 7.
