Listen Up! These Students Have Something to Say

Who:  Pasco County Schools’ students, parents, teachers, and staff What:  4-H Tropicana Public Speaking contests When:  Southwest/Northwest Regions – 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 12                       East/Central Regions – 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 13 Where:  Southwest/Northwest Regions – River Ridge High School Center for the Arts, 11646 Town Center Rd., in New Port Richey.  East/Central Regions – Pasco Middle School Auditorium, 13925 14th St., in Dade City Why:  The 4-H Tropicana Public Speaking contest affords students unique opportunities to cultivate talents and develop skills needed to meet Florida Standards for speaking and listening. How:  Students use original material to deliver informative, entertaining, and sometimes hilarious speeches and are judged on their content and delivery. Participation in the contest is a suggested activity in the English language arts curriculum units.  All 4th and 5th grade students are encouraged to participate in the program.  A first place winner from each school is invited to the district competition.
