Pasco Schools Honor Veterans

Land O’ Lakes, Florida – (November 7, 2014) – This Veterans Day, Pasco Schools is hosting a district wide Veterans Day presentation November 11, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., at the Wesley Chapel Center for the Arts. Supervisor of Elections Brian Corley will join Superintendent Kurt Browning and district students and staff to honor and celebrate our veterans and to encourage our students to participate in the Vote in Honor of a Veteran program. “This is the greatest country in the world, and we owe that to generations of men and women who have gone to war to protect our values and beliefs,” said Superintendent Browning. “There is no better place for students to learn about the sacrifices and contributions of this nation’s veterans than in our schools.” Supervisor of Elections Outreach Ambassadors also will conduct voter registration at all high schools from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Veterans Day. Here a few of them: Fox Hollow Elementary – 10 a.m. – Salute a Veteran The entire student body will have a part in honoring our local veterans. Each grade level has taken time to learn the chorus of a branch of service and to study their assigned branch and will honor veterans by participating in the event. For more information, please contact Dawn Scilex at (727) 774-7601 Odessa Elementary School – 10:15 a.m. – Veterans Day Parade Odessa Elementary students will gather to honor veterans by witnessing a patriotic musical performance by their chorus, brass quintet, sax quartet and Mitchell High’s color guard. Retired Lieutenant Colonel Alan S. Klyap will serve as guest speaker and a Veterans Day parade will follow this performance. For more information, please contact Teresa Love at (727)246-3700. Chester W. Taylor Elementary – 10:30 a.m. – Veterans Day Program Chester W. Taylor Elementary School will present the program, and the Zephyrhills High School JROTC and the Zephyrhills High School Jazz Band will participate.  The guest speaker will be Superintendent Kurt Browning.  For more information, please contact Carmen Cotee River Elementary – 10:30 a.m. – 2nd Annual Salute to Our Veterans For Cotee River’s “2nd Annual Salute to Our Veterans,” students will hear from retired U.S. Navy Commander Michale Cheetam, commander of the Ridgewood High Naval JROTC, and U.S. Coast Guard AMT3 Daniel Gosonda. Commander Cheetam’s cadets will preform and the Cotee River Chorus will give a patriotic performance. For more information, please contact Margaret O’Brien at (727)774-3002. Schrader Elementary – 2 p.m. – Schrader's Tribute to Our Veterans The 5th grade students have invited parents as well as veterans to hear patriotic songs and speaking parts that honor the brave men and women that work hard everyday to protect our freedom.
